Standard Interior Materials Sep 11, 2018 My Model S is Obsidian. This looks like solid black, but it's hard to tell in a photo. In the sun or brighter light my car has almost a deep, deep blueish metallic flake to it. Love it compared to regular black.
It hides micro scratches much better (often called "paint swirl marks"). If you so much as breathe heavily next to the standard Solid Black, it will leave visible scratches. Was torn between solid black and OBM when ordering my P3D. Just found these while picking up my car from service. Cars looked identical. Only way I knew the colors were different was from looking at the build sheets.
Personally I would got solid with tan seats and obsidian with white seats. I picked up my MX a few days ago and noticed they had a OBM Model 3 parked right next to a Solid Black Model S. From a distance, the colors looked very similar. Upon closer inspection, I felt the Solid Black would be a better choice for those considering a "true" black car (in addition to being cheaper). Obsidian Black has tiny flecks in the paint. It hides micro scratches much better (often called "paint swirl marks").
